The Mission
The mission of the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund is to support the cancer community in Minnesota by funding research, prevention, treatment and other programs relating to the community's needs.
The History
The Randy Shaver Celebrity Golf Classic began in 1995, raising $27,000. It's now one of the most successful charitable golf tournaments in the state - raising more than 3.8 million dollars to date.
In 2003, the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund was formed to ensure that the money raised by the golf event and other endeavors would be used to fund research and cancer-related projects locally. The Fund also provides the opportunity to support a variety of worthy causes each year.
The Man
Randy Shaver has been the Sports Director at KARE-11 Television (NBC Affiliate) in Minneapolis/St. Paul since 1994. He and his wife Roseann have two sons & he also has a passion for sports (especially golf). While Randy's focus has always been on cancer research and Minnesota's cancer community, the fight became personal when he became a patient. Shortly after his 1998 tournament, he was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin's Disease. Randy's treatment and remission have made him more passionate than ever about finding a cure. He strives to serve the community that has been so supportive of him.
